Terry Lawhead and Ginny Dufrene were set to run at the 117th annual Boston Marathon in 2013. It was the first year the Hattiesburg residents were sponsored for the event.
Junior College Stories
Pearl River Community College had a rough season in 2012. However, Coach Josh Hofffpauir and the Wildcats bounced back. In 2013, the team ranked fifth in an NJCAA poll and became a national contender.
NAIA Coverage
The William Carey softball team swept a double-header against Judson College to start the 2013 season. The Crusaders were coming off their fifth straight appearance in the NAIA National Tournament.
The William Carey baseball team defeated Spring Hill, sweeping the Badgers in a three-game series.
High School Coverage
It was the season opener for the Oak Grove baseball team, which won an MHSAA Class 6-A title the previous year. The Warriors defeated Perry Central 9-1 at William Carey University.
